Description
Contemporary Conservation Ltd. is a private art conservation studio based in Manhattan. The studio works with some of the most renowned galleries, collections, artists and auction houses in America and abroad. The team of seven internationally trained conservators specializes exclusively in the conservation of paintings and objects in contemporary art.
The studio manager will be responsible for all business and management aspects of the company. Overseeing day-to-day operations of a working conservation studio, managing its staff, and liaising with artists, galleries, institutions, collectors and conservators. Individual must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor. A Masters’ degree from an accredited college or university in Arts Administration, Fine Art Management, or Business Management is essential.
Requirements:
- Must have documented experience (3-5 years) in managing gallery, artist’s studio, or similar small business
- Bookkeeping experience
- Must be detail-oriented, and possess strong organizational and communication skills
- Refined written language skills
- Proficiency with MacOS X, Microsoft Office Suite, Quickbooks, FileMaker Pro, and Adobe Suite
- Must possess a business minded approach to an arts organization
- Hardware and software troubleshooting skills with Apple equipment
Some responsibilities will include:
- Oversee studio logistics
- Bookkeeping and communicating with accountant, payroll management and 401K, and benefit plans
- Maintain studio budget, conservator’s calendars, and provide general administrative and technical support
- Email and telephone correspondence
- Edit condition and conservation treatment reports
- Maintain conservation database and image archive for artworks
- Office maintenance (ordering supplies, hardware and software, liaise with vendors as needed)
Education and Skills:
- Masters degree
- English as first language
- Trustworthy and discreet
- Calm demeanor under pressure and deadlines
- Knowledge of contemporary art
- Enthusiastic and willing to learn
Compensation:
- Salary and benefits package is competitive and commensurate with experience
