Symphony Space seeks a Staff Accountant. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant performs a wide variety of essential financial processing and reporting duties, including earned income accounts payable and receivable and monthly reconciliations. S/he must be able to work independently and be very detail-oriented.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
-Process vendor invoices and prepare checks for signing
-Process cash receipts form rentals and other sources
-Record daily and month-end journal entries for deferred ticket sales, Bar Thalia (in-house bar/café), merchandise sales and other activities; Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet and income accounts
-Reconcile ticket sales with Spektrix ticketing software
-Make recommendations for the improvement of financial policies and procedures
-Support Director of Finance, particularly with financial statements
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications:
Required:
-Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting
-Knowledge of financial management systems and Excel
-Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
-Exceptional organizational skills, multi-taking ability, and attention to detail
-Strong initiative and ability to work independently
-Integrity, sensitivity and discretion in dealing with confidential financial information
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 2 to 3 years applicable experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment
- Knowledge of Financial Edge or comparable general ledger system; Excel, Word, knowledge of Spektrix a plus
- A basic accounting test will be administered

Experience with Financial Edge
This position reports to the Director of Finance and co-supervises one intern.
