The Director, Content Development will lead video and interactive content development, planning, production and deployment across all Viki/Soompi platforms, ensuring that the content supports the goals of our brand promise, audience growth and revenue KPIs. You will lead a small but agile team to produce or acquire short-form video content currently for the CREATED by Viki influencer brand, derivative content for Viki Originals and other verticals as directed by the organization.
Responsibilities:
• Conceive and create new, compelling short-form formats in line with our long-term IP development strategy, including but not limited to original content and branded entertainment
• Directly manage projects from development/pitch to production, and ensure program is consistent with best practices across all screens
• Develop an influencer strategy and eco-system activating the Viki/Soompi collective
• Collaborate intimately with stakeholders across the company to execute the content vision, inline with the Editorial team, Program Planning, Marketing, Legal, Ad Sales and Product/Engineering teams
• Acquire/license strategic content inline with the Viki/Soompi brand promise
• Research current entertainment trends, identify needs and make recommendations on potential new categories
• Ability to learn from data-backed insights and translate to creative best practices
• Budget ownership, working on tight deadlines to deliver on time every time
This is a multi-faceted role where a strong track record of hands on video production experience and a deep understanding of social platforms is expected. Besides a strong work ethic and a team-oriented personality, members of our team display creativity, passion and a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting technology and global media landscape. This role reports to the SVP, Business Development and Strategic Initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree required
• 5+ years of experience in video production, script and talent development, interactive content development at an entertainment studio, digital media company, agency, brand, publisher, production company or SVOD service
• Track record of successful multi-platform content strategies which should include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat or YouTube
• Mature relationships with production companies, agencies, writers, directors and below-the-line
• Previous experience with digital/linear content ideation, presentation, and programming development of branded content
• Highly creative, out-of-the-box thinker who is not afraid to push forward new ideas in a constructive way
• Interest in K-Pop, K-Drama and general asian entertainment
• Bilingual or proficiency in Korean and/or Mandarin and/or Japanese a plus
