WIRED aspires to set the gold standard for social storytelling, and we’re looking for a smart, experienced Associate Director of Social Media to lead our strategy and execution across every major and emerging social platform. This person will be part of WIRED’s audience development team, and will manage a talented crew of social media wizards. She or he will work closely with WIRED’s editors and designers to tell our stories in beautiful, distinctive ways. This person will guide our efforts to grow and engage our social audiences, increase our social referrals, and encourage loyalty among our readers. She or he will also be part of the larger Research, Analytics, and Audience Development team at Condé Nast.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Refine and guide our social media strategy for all platforms
• Manage our team of three people, working to mentor, train, and empower these individuals to make WIRED’s social presence even better
• Develop a strong, distinctive voice across platforms, both for text and visuals
• Continually test new methods of engaging with our readers
• Monitor our performance using a variety of analytics tools, and adjust the team’s strategy and execution accordingly
• Work closely with WIRED’s editors, designers, and audience development team to develop and create original content across our social channels
• Build new and improve existing systems of collaboration between social media, editorial, and design teams, with the aim of baking social strategy into every part of the digital and print process
• Work with Ad Sales and Consumer Marketing teams to coordinate paid promotions
• Help train editors and reporters to master social media themselves
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
• Several years of relevant experience managing social media for a large media brand or media publisher. Candidates with fewer years of experience but an exceptional portfolio of work will also be considered.
• Experience in managing teams, providing mentorship, and training teams in new skills
• Proven experience hitting key social KPIs: social engagement & audience traffic growth
• Excellent editorial judgment, writing skills, and ability to capture WIRED’s voice to reach new and established audiences
• Collaborative, communicative, and confident, with a desire to thrive in a fast-paced media environment
• Strong interest in trends in technology, science, and the future of everything
• Impeccable attention to detail
