Job Description
Editorial Intern - Concrete Construction Group
Hanley Wood is the premier media, information, and marketing services company serving the residential and commercial housing and construction industry. Housed in our Rosemont, Ill., office, our Commercial Construction Group seeks an intelligent, curious, and conscientious college senior or recent graduate to contribute to three brands: Concrete Construction (which includes Concrete Surfaces), The Concrete Producer, and Public Works.
This is a unique opportunity to produce business-to-business content for both print and digital consumption. The intern will research, analyze, report, and write authoritatively on topics that help the nation's concrete contractors, concrete producers, and public works professionals improve profitability and productivity.
Candidates must possess exceptional writing, editing, and analytical skills. Meticulous attention to detail, factual accuracy, and knowledge of Associated Press (AP) stylebook are crucial. Experience with blogs and social media desirable but not required.
Hours
30 to 40 per week (start time flexible within core business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)
Responsibilities:
• Post products, original and curated news, videos, and slideshows to Hanley Wood content management system (CMS)
• Increase audience engagement with brand websites by finding and integrating relevant videos, tweets, etc., for all online content
• Mine and post Hanley Wood sister content
• Proofread online news items, assemble weekly e-newsletters
• Obtain, attribute, and write compelling captions and other text for photos, video, and other graphics for print and online use
• Request, write, and post products with photos and/or videos
• Support annual Polished Concrete Awards program
• Conduct online and over-the-phone research to identify trends and determine topic relevance
• Write succinct, accurate, intelligent, and creative copy that drives traffic to our websites
• Attend staff meetings
• May also help develop print products for major industry trade show
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, or a related field required.
• Recent college graduates preferred but college seniors also will be considered.
• Demonstrated research, writing, and telephone skills
• Excellent knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style
• Ability to meet multiple deadlines by managing projects and stories simultaneously
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong sense of professionalism
• Organized self-starter with a positive attitude
• Must display the maturity required to work in a casual, informal office setting
