Description
Studio in a School NYC, LLC (Studio) seeks an experienced and innovative arts education professional with a deep knowledge of arts education, pedagogy, and the New York City public school system to join its senior program team as the Manager of Curriculum and Instruction. The Manager of Curriculum and Instruction will provide intellectual and pedagogical support for Studio’s programs by collaborating with program staff on the creation and refinement of developmentally appropriate lessons, units, and residencies. The Manager will also provide training, feedback, and support for Studio’s dedicated team of professional artist instructors who teach in public schools and community based organizations throughout New York City. The Manager will join a passionate, talented team in a dynamic and well-respected art education organization.
This is a new position at a nationally-recognized arts education organization. The Manager of Curriculum and Instruction will have the opportunity to partner with senior leadership in conceiving and implementing new programs while ensuring existing programs remain strong and vital.
The Manager of Curriculum and Instruction position is an exempt, full-time position reporting to the Executive Director. Primary responsibilities include:
• Collaborate with senior leadership to set curricular and instructional goals, evaluate existing programming, and develop new initiatives.
• In collaboration with other program managers, refine and document model lessons and units and develop protocols for sharing curricular materials internally and externally.
• Conduct ongoing review of lessons, units, and instructional practices to ensure fidelity to program model and program quality
• Design and implement a comprehensive training program for new and experienced artist instructors in close collaboration with senior leadership and program manager team
• Spend between one and three days per week in the field at program sites conducting program observations and providing instructional and curricular support to artist instructors
• Supervise contracts, budgets, documentation, and scheduling of trainings and other programs
• Employ evaluation instruments to analyze program outcomes, using results as a tool for program development. Conduct periodic review of evaluation instruments in consultation with the rest of the program staff
• Write reports on programs for internal and external uses; review and advise on printed and digital marketing materials
• Stay informed of current research in the field of visual arts education, and share relevant research with other members of the program team and senior leadership
• Other projects and tasks as assigned by senior management
Requirements
• Bachelors degree in a relevant field, Masters degree strongly preferred.
• Background in and passion for visual arts and education
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the field
• Knowledge of visual arts curriculum and current educational issues.
• Familiarity with the NYC public school system.
• Previous experience developing curriculum.
• Superior writing skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communications, project management, and supervisory skills.
• Willingness to take initiative, attention to detail, collaborative approach to one’s work, and a commitment to the highest standards of excellence
