Job Summary
Sets the direction for a CenturLink’s Net Neutrality position with responsibility for messaging and public speaking, Internet peering and interconnection strategy with responsibility for negotiation of business terms with major trading partners, a global traffic flow visualization platform to inform cost and performance optimization, and business cases to support the continual expansion of CenturyLink’s global Internet backbone and CDN edge delivery capacities with consideration and support for all layer 3 through 7 products. Exerts a high level of influence among internal partners and functional areas to drive success. Directs the development of these initiatives and delivers the product market requirements. Responsible for maximizing the competitiveness and financial performance of the core IP and CDN infrastructure. Leads one or more teams of Product Managers with the primary responsibilities of defining the product strategy, developing the product roadmap, managing the capital and expense cost profile, and analyzing requirements. Ensures an industry-leading customer experience across CenturyLink’s Internet backbone and extending that performance into the global Internet backbone. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with C-level executives, regulatory and government leaders, press and industry analysts.
Job Description
Set the long-range strategy and priorities for a product portfolio of significant impact to CenturyLink. Plan and direct activities that include financial analysis and reporting, pricing implementation, portfolio positioning and product life-cycle to achieve revenue and margin goals. Leads the definition of the most strategically and financially critical products within the company, responsible for defining and communicating the product scope, capabilities and advantages to the marketplace.
Provide key leadership to finance, segment marketing, corporate strategy and other teams to ensure consistent and accurate product performance management such as revenue/cost reporting and analysis, pricing analysis and trends, CAPEX/OPEX/NETEX forecasting and performance, and other key metrics of product financial performance.
Directly manages one or more teams of Product Managers that support a product or set of products that have significant strategic and financial impact on CenturyLink. Builds a high performance team; sets goals, delegates work, holds reports accountable; develops and empowers direct reports to make decisions and take action. Demonstrates CenturyLink values, moves team forward through change; provides timely information; recognizes accomplishments; fosters teamwork and collaboration.
Responsible for fostering in the product team a detailed understanding of product costs and for developing plans to achieve or surpass established revenue and cash flow targets. Set direction taking into account industry developments, company consolidations, and competitive landscape.
Provide strategic guidance to the product development team to define product capabilities for new products and features. Develops and presents highly influential business cases justifying any required financial and resource investments.
Ensure consistency and market relevancy for the packaging and pricing of the product portfolio by setting direction and influencing key members of the product team, marketing, segment management, and sales management to continually refine pricing strategy and tactics as both the product portfolio and market conditions evolve.
Prioritize impactful and broad-based initiatives for improved processes and communication. Enforces standards. Partners with sales on the most complex and impactful customer solutions.
Partner with product marketing at a high level to develop and execute marketing plans, including product value propositions by customer or market segments. Prioritizes and sets direction for product training and collateral, development of promotions, market research, competitive analysis, etc.
Qualifications
• MBA or advanced business degree preferred.
• Typically 10+ years of relevant experience with 3-5 years of experience as a director or in a similar leadership role.
• Experience with Financial reporting and analysis.
• Ability to collect, examine, and distill financial reports and public disclosures to assess competitive landscape.
• Good organizational and “action accountability” management skills.
• Ability to provide leadership for cross-functional teams.
• Proactive and self-motivated – ability to drive projects and assignments.
• Good documentation and written communication skills.
• Negotiation skills and experience managing third-party vendor negotiations/relationships.
