National Academician Membership Coordinator

The National Academy of Design (NAD) is a nearly 200-year old membership organization made up of more than 420 of today’s leading artists and architects, the National Academicians (NAs). Since its founding, we have remained committed to a powerful mission: to promote art and architecture in America through exhibition and education. Today our Academy is undergoing an exciting and long overdue transformation. With strong programming, an energized board, a committed membership, and financial resources, the National Academy is poised to commence an exciting phase of development and growth.
FUNCTION:
The National Academy seeks a new National Academician Membership Coordinator to support the administrative aspects of NA activities. Working closely with and reporting to the Director of National Academician Communications, the Membership Coordinator will organize the nomination and election of new NA artist and architect members; the planning and logistics for our yearly Induction ceremony and three member meetings per year; maintain mailing lists and timelines; and help facilitate collaboration among our small staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as primary administrative contact for the National Academicians and act as a public liaison for NA-related external events; provide warm and professional face for the organization
Assist with print and electronic mailings
Coordinate NA and Membership Committee meetings, including organizing logistics such as seating, A/V, and staffing; receiving RSVPs; serving as a point person during the meeting; and drafting agendas, meeting transcripts, and summaries
Serve as administrator for elections by receiving, organizing, and distributing materials; providing support; and assisting in welcoming incoming classes of NAs
Assist in-house team with production of annual new member Induction ceremony and party: create and research mailing lists, coordinate print and electronic collateral, event logistics, and vendors
Maintain NA lists in Excel, Constant Contact, and on our website
Serve as administrator and generate content for NA-only Facebook group
Coordinate other administrative elements of NA activities as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
Outstanding organization and time-management skills
Excellent written abilities, verbal communication, and professional demeanor
Proactive, anticipatory, positive attitude, and proven work ethic
Keen attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Constant Contact (or similar email marketing services), and willingness to explore and master other software
Flexible, adaptive, and team-oriented approach
1-3 years of previous related administrative experience
The ideal candidate would also have interest or experience working in the arts, a non-profit environment, member relations, development, events, and/or communications.
This is a full-time position, Monday – Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours for events.
Starting salary in the $40-42K range, depending upon experience.
