Job Description
The SVP, Search Director has responsibility for the growth, management, retention and satisfaction of a large account or group of accounts. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to lead clients strategically and tactically across all aspects of search and have an ability to integrate with other online and offline marketing activities. The SVP, Search Director leads his/her own team in the conception and delivery of innovative, business-building search solutions as well as contributing to Starcom new business efforts. The ideal candidate provides engaged leadership, develops senior level client relationships and is regarded by the client as an expert and trusted advisor. Proven account management and new business experience in an agency environment is required.
Role Objectives:
The Work:
The SVP, Search Director will maintain overall control of work-flow and assigned subordinate responsibilities within their group. He or she will oversee the progress of all projects and provide assistance, where necessary, to assure timely completion of projects. Additionally, this individual will ensure that projects are produced completely, correctly and with a maximum of manpower efficiency. In doing so, this person is responsible for:
• Developing and activating search strategies for a large account or group of accounts
• Developing action plans for achieving and measuring campaign success, including determining key metrics and developing processes for measurement and optimization
• Working with media, account, and agency partners to ensure search integration with all client marketing activity
• Keeping clients and agency counterparts informed on latest developments in the search industry and their potential implications for clients
• This individual will have responsibility for growing revenue from existing clients and contributing to or leading new business pitches as needed
• This individual is frequently involved in client and inter-agency education of search, and will be responsible for developing intellectual capital, including presentations, best practices, case studies and official agency POVs on industry issues and developments
The People:
This individual will be responsible for overseeing a team of people that plan, execute and optimize search campaigns. He or she will stimulate subordinate productivity and growth by:
• Assisting in development of employee training programs
• Establishing and fostering a corporate culture that inspires talent
• Allocating assignments to leverage each person’s individual skills, as well as motivating their interests and challenging their minds
• Encouraging thorough evaluation of organic search strategies, finding opportunity for competitive advantage
• Supporting direct contact with account groups and clients
• Developing their careers within Starcom, providing ongoing feedback and conducting employee evaluations
• The SVP, Search Director will participate in leading agency initiatives that affect all department employees
• This person will actively support and participate in agency recruitment activities, including agency hiring practices
• This person will also be responsible for recruiting and retaining top search talent, growing the team to deliver on client and agency goals
The Client:
The SVP, Search Director serves as client’s senior point of contact for search initiatives, able to provide effective long term strategic guidance and counsel. This individual will be responsible for:
• Mastering, identifying, and communicating trends in search and in client industries
• Being familiar with all search client initiatives and able introduce other client experiences with similar goals and targets to existing or potential partners
• Defining and evaluating client’s competition online, as well as how it relates to their organic search initiatives
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
• 9+ years of progressive levels of digital media and search marketing expertise
• Experience in applying search to brand-building & direct response initiatives
• Strong command of search landscape
• Knowledge of syndicated research tools such as ComScore
• Deep understanding of how search works together as part of a broader media mix
• Demonstrated ability to build and strengthen client relationships
• Experience working with large, complex organizations
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills
• Strong presentation skills and experience presenting to Fortune 500 clients
• Demonstrated business acumen and a track record of success in the media/marketing services profession
• Solid interpersonal and teamwork abilities
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to lead new business development process, demonstrated ability to win new clients
• Shopper marketing experience is a plus
