Under minimal supervision this position is responsible for highly complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements. Continually monitors financial control processes and ensures that accounting transactions are executed in accordance with established standards of internal control. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures to the completion of difficult Accounting assignments. This position is a seasoned, experienced professional.
• Resolves a wide range of accounting issues in imaginative as well as practical ways conferring with supervisor on unusual matters.
• Performs periodic testing of key internal controls, and alerts management to any control deficiencies in a timely manner.
• Conducts special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods or procedures.
• Analyze financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets and expenditures.
• Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
• Provide business partners and management with actual-to-budget variance analysis working with business partners to identify causes and resolution of variances.
• Manages workload effectively and efficiently by prioritizing responsibilities.
• Review, research and recommend improvements to analysis, reporting, billing and compliance systems.
• Respond to financial inquiries of field management providing requested information for use in effective field management of the business.
• Coordinates accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions.
• Provides functional advice or training to less-experienced associates
Responsibility and Decision Making
Within acceptable accounting practices, Senior Accountants demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to apply to their everyday assignments. Is assigned tasks of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity to complete. Senior Accounts have appreciable latitude for unreviewed action or decision. Applies company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
• Minimum of three years of broad accounting experience
• Broad knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures
• Experience working within an internal control framework as established for public companies under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
• Strong PC literacy skills in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access and Word)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate with all levels of management and associates.
• Normal office working environment.
• Cyclical, sometime unplanned, occasionally substantial overtime required.
