Description
The Department of Art at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Graphic Design. The department offers a BA and BFA in Graphic Design at SUNY’s flagship research university located in an emerging post-industrial city with a vibrant cultural scene.
Candidates for Graphic Design should be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary art and design environment. The candidate’s pedagogical focus will entail practices of graphic communication for screen and print and give equal weight to formal and conceptual issues. The department seeks applications from graphic designers with professional knowledge of the field and an understanding of design history, methodology, and critical issues. Expertise in branding and identity, print design, typography and visual rhetorics, with at least two years of professional or creative activity preferred. Experience in the areas of web design, interaction design, mobile apps and emergent media/hybrid forms is a plus.
The department has launched a new socially-engaged design studio. Candidates with an interest in community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Art has graduate programs at the MA, MFA and PhD levels in addition to our BFA and BA programs. The candidate is expected to teach 2 courses a semester, advise students and contribute to the development of the design and emerging practices curriculum and the new socially-engaged design studio initiative. This is a 10-month position.
Salary: $40,000
