Description
The Sr. Mgr., Engagement/Next Gen Content is directly responsible for content areas that deal with consumer engagement and loyalty, with additional focus on recruiting age 18-34 consumers. This position shares responsibility for oversight of the entire newsroom with other department leaders. This position requires local content vision and strategy to address consumer needs, content standards, delivery, quality control and continuous improvement.
Key activities
• Collaborates with the Sr. Director of Local Media Content and a team of peer leaders to leverage the Scripps content strategy as the foundation for market-specific local content strategy. This position has specific attention on leading a team of people to regularly and reliably produce targeted stories of impact and importance to our community, with a focus on age 18-34 consumers, as well as content that will foster engagement.
• Collaborates with peer leaders to plan daily and future engagement opportunities for publication on all platforms.
• Works with peer leaders to build strategies, tactics and measurements for content and engagement platforms.
• Sets an overall strategy for social media and builds training for all newsroom employees.
• Hires, schedules and manages team of engagement/next gen journalists (multiple platforms and disciplines) to deliver and continuously improve our engagement with consumers.
• Builds, assigns and manages content beats in accordance with audience demands and community impact.
• Develops a pipeline of talent for this and other Scripps local media businesses.
• Monitors all product on all platforms for compliance to federal, state and local laws as well as First and Fourteenth Amendments, and trains staff to do the same.
• Responsible for engagement/next gen content budget planning and monitoring.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience/Certifications
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field required.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in positions of progressive responsibility required.
• 3 years of management experience in content media departments preferred.
• Experience acquiring audience with a demonstrated pattern or track record of success desired.
Skills & Abilities
• Journalism: Skilled storyteller, journalistic ethics and libel.
• Working knowledge of television ratings.
• Advanced oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of all media platforms and broad understanding of broadcast newsroom operations and equipment.
