We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic digital marketing professional to join Cell Press as Marketing Manager, located in our new offices in Cambridge, MA. Cell Press, a division of Elsevier, has successfully published premium brand journals in the life sciences for over 40 years, and more recently has begun to expand with launches in new disciplines. An exciting opportunity exists to join the Cell Press marketing team to help successfully launch and establish a strong brand for the latest new journal in the portfolio.
The Marketing Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive go-to-market plan to deliver a successful marketing launch. The primary focus is to establish a strong brand positioning within its core markets, and within the Cell Press portfolio, and the successful candidate will have a passion for developing brands that excite. If you love marketing analytics, we believe you’ll fit in very well to our team as we focus on delivering growth through a personalized marketing approach, driven by insight from customer data.
Specific duties include:
• Develop and implement customer-centric go-to-market strategy and marketing plan informed by market trends and establish KPIs aligned to business goals.
• Develop a strong brand positioning strategy, with a distinct value proposition, audience segmentation, and tactical marketing actions with measurable objectives in collaboration with internal stakeholders (editorial, sales, operations, finance, plus colleagues across the Elsevier group).
• Partner with brand agency to develop visually dynamic creative and messaging which is consistent with the Cell Press brand identify and apply consistently across all media.
• Leverage the latest technologies, including marketing automation tools, and be comfortable with continuous experiment, test, and learn approach.
• Use marketing analytics to measure effectiveness, set benchmarks, and develop strategies for new approaches and marketing actions based on insights from behavioral data.
• Drive strong internal communication around all aspects of marketing, be the project lead, and ensure alignment and buy in from the team on a regular basis.
• Collaborate with media and communications colleagues to develop compelling marketing content. Collaborate with colleagues across all departments to identify cross promotion opportunities.
• Compose internal communications about the journal’s development to be disseminated globally across all business units.
• Create monthly reports about all marketing and PR activities for distribution to all key internal stakeholders.
• Develop and effectively manage budget
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
• Excellent communication skills
• An entrepreneurial attitude, passion for winning and delivering results.
• Driven by data, comfortable with experiment, test, change, and learn approach.
• Degree level (BSc/BA) education
• 2-4 years’ experience in a strategic marketing/brand management/communications position.
• Previous experience in in STM publishing is desirable but not essential.
• Broad experience of the latest marketing technologies, including automation platforms e.g. Hubspot or Adobe
• Comfortable with marketing analytics and some experience of tools, e.g. Adobe Analytics
• Experience social media, content marketing and media relations
• Commercial, financial and IT awareness
