STOP! -- This is not your normal MMJ position.
This position is at Hello SWFL, a new Company within E.W. Scripps that's looking to change what news covers and how news is delivered.
We're highly experimental and looking to test the boundaries to discover what today's audience is interested in and how Hello SWFL can, as a news organization, deliver that content to them.
As a member of our highly collaborative team, you'll need to utilize your expertise with digital, video and TV to be successful. You'll be more than a reporter -- you'll be a member of the Fort Myers community, learning about what matters to the people who live and visit Southwest Florida.
We are looking for enthusiastic storytellers who are interested in:
• Breaking News
• Day-to-day storytelling
You'll need to be willing to try new things so when you apply, share with us examples of your work that show off your unique storytelling capabilities.
Below is your standard job description - but remember, this job will be anything BUT standard!
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -
• Receives assignment or evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas
• Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research
• Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
• Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories
• Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms
• Appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration
• Gives live reports from site of event
• Work cooperatively with others assigned to story, if someone else is assigned
• Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories
• Report, write, capture quality visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED -Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minimum of two years of experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The following characteristics and skills are a must:
• Resourceful, self-motivated, and independent with the ability to deal with people of all levels within and outside the organization
• Ability to multi-task
• Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
• Computer literacy required, including Apple computer systems
• Videography and editing experience preferred
• Knowledge of DSLR camera equipment
• Edit video on Adobe Premiere editing systems, or similar equipment
• Strong writing skills
• Knowledge of posting content to various social media platforms
• Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws
WORK ENVIRONMENT --
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds as necessary.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record required
• Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends, and holidays as needed
