The Community Content Specialist for the St. Cloud Times, serving Central Minnesota, is a key quality-control position as well as being the newsroom's liaison to community members and contributors. This job for USA TODAY NETWORK chiefly entails communicating daily with remote work groups; making final checks of content for accuracy; monitoring breaking news; and processing and editing submitted material to convert it to the standard of quality that readers expect. It’s a full -time role that includes afternoon and evening hours.
Duties include:
• Editing and/or rewriting freelance and community-contributed
materials, including letters to the editor and news releases.
• Communicating with producers and designers via email and
messenger, as well as onsite editors, reporters and photographers to ensure
high-quality production and avoid duplication of work.
• Using both Presto and Newsgate software (will train)
• Other duties and special projects, as assigned
Candidate
must have:
• A firm grasp of AP style and the ability to learn the news
organizations’ style
• Ability to write clearly and cleanly.
• An abiding respect for deadlines.
• Ability to type cleanly and quickly, as well as find and correct
errors in existing text
• Customer service skills to communicate with the public
• Comfort with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office
(Word, Excel, etc.), willingness and ability to learn news-related software as
needed
• Photo/video skills are a bonus.
