This is a full-time position reporting to the Technical Publications manager. The person in this position is responsible for researching, planning, writing, and editing end-user technical documentation, product service manuals, online application help, bulletins, and any other type of required informational or procedural documents used by customers both internally and externally. Conducts interviews and demonstrations with various subject matter experts (SMEs) throughout the organization to gather required information or procedures. Assists in producing RFP responses within deadline. Utilizes the defined department review process (SME, Requester, Peer, final copyedit) before disseminating communications to all internal and external audiences. Produces documents that conform to the Technical Communication’s Documentation Style Guides.

Essential Job Functions:
• Produces high-quality, on-time communications in support of new product submissions or existing products in the field or for regulatory agencies
• Prepares new documentation using information obtained from research and input from Subject Matter Experts and Project Management
• Builds strong collaborative relationships with any required department including Product Development (hardware & software), Field Service, Compliance, Sales, Systems, and Legal in the collection and development of document content
• Interviews hardware engineers, software engineers, project managers, product trainers, technical support, and other technical personnel to become familiar with product technology and development
• Researches engineering schematics, design diagrams, bill of materials, process maps, and understands the development cycle of the product
• Maintains existing technical documents for updates and revisions
• Translates complex and technical information into an intuitive and clear format
• Verifies, validates, and edits documentation products; ensures that documentation accuracy reflects the functionality and meets defined quality parameters
• Management of documentation projects to ensure that they are done in a timely manner
• Reviews, edits, and proofreads materials written by other writers
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, looks for ways to improve and promote quality, and applies feedback to improve performance
• Assists other writers with their projects
• Actively involved in continuous improvement projects
Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Updates the Technical Publications intranet site.
• Maintains and delivers project status information.
• Follows business continuity guidelines and procedures.
• Recommends updates to the Technical Publications Style Guide.
• Follows the Technical Publications Style Guides.
• Fosters a supportive and collaborative work environment within the department and with internal and external customers.
• Assists with ongoing departmental and organizational initiatives.
• Ad hoc duties, as specified by the Technical Publications Manager.
Position Requirements
• Minimum 1 to 3 years of technical writing experience; previous internship experience preferred
• Experience writing technical documentation for technology products preferred
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communications, English, Communications, and/or Journalism preferred, or equivalent (i.e., military training and schooling)
• Must be 21 years of age
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required, including the ability to digest and explicate highly technical content and strong interview skills.
• Effective organizational skills in order to complete multiple tasks under the pressure of deadlines.
• Willingness and the ability to quickly learn new concepts, information, new software applications, writing tools, and skills
• Organized, detail-oriented, and timely
• Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently on multiple projects with minimal supervision
• Ability to manage documentation projects/schedules – large document set
• Ability to initiate project work with defined goals and clear instruction on assignments.
• Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with people from multiple disciplines.
• Experience with Microsoft Office programs, including MS Word and Excel, are required.
• Working knowledge of Adobe FrameMaker and Photoshop software is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Adobe RoboHelp is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Captivate is a preferred.
• Knowledge of HTML development and Dreamweaver is a plus.
• Some knowledge of Flash development is a plus.
• Some knowledge and experience using 3D Modeling software is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Vision: Close Vision, Ability to Adjust Focus.
Physical Requirements: Needs to use hand tools and maneuver around slot machine components.
Work Conditions:
Basic office environment, lab environment, casino environment, and as-needed work assignments.
