The Director of Information Technology Excellence will work closely with the SVP to ensure excellence in execution for the overall IT portfolio of projects and programs.
Ideally the successful candidate will be an energetic and clear communicator who possesses outstanding people, project, and process management skills and is adept at collaborating with various stakeholders across IT and the business.
This includes working across IT to create best practices and standard methodologies, driving overall release strategy and management and ensuring follow-through on the part of key players to achieve goals.
As a close partner to the SVP IT Operations & Enablement and the CIO, the candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, judgment, integrity, and leadership. He or she will lead communications and talent management strategies and support execution of all aspects of them on behalf of the IT group, driving awareness and commitment related to a revised vision for HMH IT, and mobilizing IT and business stakeholders to take actions or operate in new ways. This position is located in Boston, MA and will require approximately 25% travel.
Duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manage the overall performance management and metrics of the entire IT portfolio of project and programs
Drive creation of program and project dashboards, including project metrics and budget.
Develop and drive standards in IT methodology for entire lifecycle of projects.
Identify and implement IT organizational process improvements and related performance measures.
Engage continually with the broader organization, ensuring that the SVP remains aware of opportunities to be considered or unanticipated problems to be addressed.
Manage the overall talent retention and recruiting strategies for IT resources in the various functional pillars, including the creation of employee resource groups.
Drive overall strategy and execution of Co-Ops for the entire IT organization.
Develop and support the IT communication strategies, working in conjunction with the SVP and CIO.
Process sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, judgment and tact.
Required Skills and Experience:
BA degree in business, finance, or related discipline, MBA preferred.
At least 10 years of business experience working with senior leadership and executive levels of organizations preferred
Demonstrable experience as a people manager.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to drive structured problem solving and solutions across broad stakeholder groups.
Preferred Skills:
Ability to take high-level ideas, strategies, and ambiguous objectives, and translate them into clear strategic communication artifacts for multi-level audiences – executives to specific team members.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively to deal well with shifting priorities and assignments.
Presents an appropriately professional image; communicates clearly, concisely, and diplomatically.
Develops and fosters strong business relationships with colleagues on a global basis.
Demonstrates leadership, initiative, efficiency, productivity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
Motivated to continuously learn new things, maintaining a positive attitude.
Flexible working style that is adaptable to disparate audiences and working styles.
Physical Requirements:
Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
