Cell Press is seeking to appoint an Editor to launch a new Cell Press Reviews journal Trends in Chemistry, to be based in Cambridge, MA, USA.
Eager to help the research community stay up to speed on important advances in chemistry?
Building on our successful Trends brand of reviews journals and our recent launch of Chem, we are expanding our presence in the chemistry community by launching a new Cell Press Reviews journal: Trends in Chemistry. As the Editor of Trends in Chemistry, you will shape the organization and progress of this new journal, acquiring and developing the very best review and editorial content. By growing and making use of your network of contacts in academia and industry, plus using information gathered at international conferences, you will ensure that Trends in Chemistry takes a leading position in the field. You will guide the direction of the journal by adapting its content, article types, and communication style to meet the evolving needs of your research community.
This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of scientific communication at a time when the global research community is overwhelmed by the sheer volume of research being published every day. An exciting challenge of your job will be to explore new ways to digest and synthesize this wealth of information to the greatest benefit of the chemistry community.
Your responsibilities
• Keep abreast of the field; identify key authors and research topics where a review or short overview will benefit the research community.
• Commission and manage a pipeline of high quality reviews and editorial content across the breadth of the field.
• Manage the peer review and editorial process.
• Edit manuscripts for scientific message.
• Build strong relationships in the wider scientific community and collaborate with other parts of the business.
• Determine and execute strategic direction of your journal.
• Execute data-driven innovation and experimentation to the benefit of your journal community’s needs.
What you should bring
• PhD in chemistry or related degree. Post-doctoral training is an advantage.
• Passion for science and scientific communication.
• Good interpersonal skills. Networking in the chemistry community is an essential piece of the job.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, and the ability to prioritize, focus, and achieve desired goals.
What we offer
You will work in a highly dynamic and collaborative publishing environment that includes 15 Trends titles and 17 primary research titles. You will also collaborate with your Cell Press colleagues to maximize quality and efficiency of content commissioning and participate in exciting new non-journal-based initiatives.
