Job Summary
The candidate will research, develop, negotiate, and maintain buys for media outlets. In addition, the candidate will serve as Account Manager for one or more active clients, and as such must be able to effectively disseminate information, give direction, assign and delegate tasks, communicate and present concepts, represent the Department in agency meetings and client meetings, and manage other staff members.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Media schedule development – 30%
◦ Gather rates, construct buys in Core buying system, and send schedules
◦ Effectively negotiate & steward buys across multiple mediums & accounts
◦ Serve as market expert, providing insight to the marketplace conditions and opportunities in specific markets or media outlets
◦ Maintain knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies that affect the buying discipline
◦ Work closely with sales representatives to promote advantageous relationships
• Media schedule management – 30%
◦ Manage market budgets and deliverables (GRPs, impressions, response data)
◦ React quickly to campaign results, and implement required optimizations as directed
• Account management – 30%
◦ Serve as primary Activation account manager across several Department accounts
◦ Oversee other buyers’ duties in negotiating and maintaining schedules for several accounts
◦ Provide clear direction to staff regarding client goals and campaign management actions including buy-management optimizations
◦ Participate in campaign results meetings/calls with client and brand strategy teams
• Administrative – 10%
◦ Train and oversee Assistant Buyer regarding media fundamentals, policies/procedures, and computer systems
◦ Represent Horizon Media and its clients in a professional manner at media industry events and presentations
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Responsible for overseeing a shared Assistant Buyer as direct report
• Responsible for directing and guiding other staff members pursuant to client campaign goals
Knowledge and Skills Required
• Experience working in fast-paced advertising environment
• Minimum 4-years experience in active buying
• Buy-management experience, analyzing all aspects of metrics including Cost-per-Lead and Cost-per-Point
• Quantifiable negotiation skills, with favorable media industry relationships
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
• Experience with a media-buying computer program
• Experience in creating pricing estimates
• Effective collaborator and team-player
• Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
• Strong communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation
• Exposure to account management responsibilities preferred
