Job Description Summary
The National Geographic Society is committed to increasing understanding of who we are as a species, and our relationship with the natural world through the Human Journey lens. The Human Journey lens contains a multi-million dollar portfolio of science, education and storytelling programs. It supports projects in a range of fields that are helping us better understand ourselves, each other, our relationship with the planet, and the steps required for a more sustainable future. We do this because we believe that to effectively govern the planet we must understand who we are, have empathy for other cultures and species, understand the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, and have a clear vision for the future world in which we want to live. We also want to help drive attitudes and innovations that will make this future possible.
The lens is organized into three programmatic areas. Being Human is focused on defining the status and trends of the human condition through discoveries in human evolution, the documentation of past societies, and enhancing our understanding of the ways in which humans settled the planet. Living With Ten Billion seeks to understand the challenges of living on a planet with more than ten billion people, including issues such as energy, water, pollution, food, and access to nature. Human Resilience is dedicated to driving innovations to help people learn to live sustainably on a planet with increasing population and environmental stressors.
