Manager, Monitoring & Automation
In the role of Manager of Monitoring and Automation, you will define our corporate monitoring and alerting strategy and guide the development of monitoring and automation tooling to support our cloud environment. You will be hands on, writing tools to automate parts of the DevOps toolchain, as well as manage a team of 8.
This position is based in Boston with up to 25% travel.
Primary responsibilities of the Manager of Monitoring and Automation Role
• Lead a team of 8 automation developers, tool administrators, and monitoring specialists
• Provide architectural guidance for corporate-wide monitoring and alerting across internal and external-facing cloud-based applications
• Work with business stakeholders to define, document, and implement business needs across the organization
• As a hands-on member of the team, assist with writing tools to automate parts of the DevOps toolchain, particularly in the areas of environment management (spin up/down, tagging, creation/destruction), monitoring and alerting, and developer self-service
• Coordinate, along with the core operations manager, 24x7 support for our customer-facing cloud environments
• Provide monitoring dashboards to senior management which give a complete and insightful view of our infrastructure
• Work with our vendors to leverage emerging advances in machine learning to provide preventative alerts and self-healing of our environments
Skills & Requirements:
• 10+ years’ experience in a variety of development and IT roles of increasing scale and scope
• Previous experience as a lead or manager
• 3+ years of direct hands-on cloud experience as a software engineer or architect
• Experience with a wide variety of cloud technologies such as Azure or AWS.
• Previous responsibility for a large-scale 24/7 Enterprise SaaS environment with a maniacal focus on customer service and support
• Knowledge of various open source and commercial monitoring tools (Splunk, Datadog, TICK stack, Nagios, Solar Winds, PagerDuty, etc.)
• Development experience with one or more scripting or programming languages
• Familiarity with standard elements of a DevOps toolchain (Git, Jira, Jenkins, Terraform)
• Able to create and describe detailed architectural diagrams and descriptions
• Comfortable presenting in front of senior management and peers
• Knowledge of and desire to advocate passionately for best practices around cloud infrastructures
