Overview
This Senior Marketing Manager is a key marketing professional for Blink YA, Zondervan YA, and Special Projects. He/she is responsible for effective marketing planning and execution in the young adult space while establishing and reporting sound metrics that demonstrate increased awareness, market share, and young adult sales growth.
This position will lead and develop our digital strategy for Blink YA Books and Zondervan YA, as well as create and manage comprehensive campaigns for assigned books which includes but is not limited to: marketing and publicity positioning, consumer messaging, media planning and buying, publicity pitching and management, social media strategy, live events, budgeting, and ROI analysis for each campaign. In partnership with authors, agents, editors, vendors, retail sales and other team members, the senior marketing manager applies an integrated approach to meet sales goals.
Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities
Marketing Planning and Execution
• Develops, implements, and manages comprehensive marketing campaigns of moderate to high complexity for assigned authors, titles, and brands.
• Sets and oversees digital strategy for all Blink YA projects for both front and backlist titles, as well as for the brand, including BlinkYABooks.com.
• Presents marketing plans and updates at key meetings with authors, agents, sales teams and company executives.
• Leverages best practices in digital (social media, search, email, etc.) and traditional (advertising, promotion, events) marketing methods to maximize unit sales and revenue.
• Builds reader, influencer and advocate communities via social media and email.
• Participates in the planning and preparation for all sales conferences, as well as presenting the marketing portion of assigned titles during the conference.
• Manages budget development and expense projections for assigned campaigns.
• Manages author relationships and ensures clear, effective project management across author and agency team members.
• Analyzes marketing campaigns and makes recommendations for adjustments and key learnings based on those results.
• Builds KPI measurements into the marketing planning process; use information to measure potential success of future titles and provide timely data reports throughout the life of a product launch including preorder, launch and post launch reports to insure maximum revenue potential.
• Develop and execute marketing plans and tactics assigned by Vice President of Marketing in a timely and fiscally responsible manner to drive maximum revenue, including providing direction and content to Senior Marketing Manager – Creative and others for timely marketing asset delivery.
Publicity Planning and Development
• Sets PR strategy for Blink and Zondervan YA titles and other individual new releases as assigned.
• Help build and maintain media contacts, including national, regional, local, and online to secure book coverage.
• Work with acquisition editors, authors and agents to develop and execute publicity campaigns with some travel to support book-related events/media tours
• Manage outside public relations firms and coordinate the activities of other personnel involved in each project, including travel and other arrangements with the assistance of marketing operations manager.
• Lead Blink and Zondervan YA positioning and plans at all trade conventions, including planning and staging author events. Specifically, will serve as team lead for the planning and execution of BEA, as well as regional ABA shows as assigned
Qualifications
Knowledge/Work Experience:
• 5 – 6+ years marketing experience
• Experience supervising outside vendors
• Well-developed marketing and management skills and experience
• Digital marketing expertise including social media, SEO/SEM, and key word strategies
• Brand strategy and growth experience
• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and ability to prioritize, manage projects, and meet deadlines
• Experience and ability to work cross departmentally
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
Industry Knowledge:
• Good acquaintance with the Young Adult marketplace is preferred
• Excellent knowledge of the children’s publishing market preferred
Skills:
• Social media and digital marketing best practices
• Project management and marketing management tools such as SilverPop or similar platforms
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
