STOP! -- This is not your normal Producer position.
This position is at Hello SWFL, a new Company within E.W. Scripps that's looking to change what news covers and how news is delivered.
We're highly experimental and looking to test the boundaries to discover what today's audience is interested in and how Hello SWFL can, as a news organization, deliver that content to them.
As a member of our highly collaborative team, you'll need to utilize your expertise with digital, video and TV to be successful. You'll be more than a producer -- you'll be a member of the Fort Myers community, learning about what matters to the people who live and visit Southwest Florida.
We are looking for enthusiastic Enterprise Producers who have experience with:
• Generating investigative story ideas
• Organizing stories to enable routine follow-up
• Working with an investigative reporter and determining how to maximize the number of stories covered while not cutting corners
• Writing/editing articles
• Shooting/editing video
• Interviewing
You'll need to be willing to try new things so when you apply, share with us examples of your work that show off your unique storytelling capabilities.
Below is your standard job description - but remember, this job will be anything BUT standard!
The Enterprise Producer will produce compelling stories for multiple platforms which may include investigative stories and special projects.
KEY ACTIVITIES
• Research, develop, and plan investigative stories or special projects
• Write scripts as needed
• Work closely with MMJs/Reporters and content producers as stories are produced for multiple platforms
• Regularly check online sources for story ideas and responding to viewers
• Shoot still and moving video as needed
• Edit video
• Work closely with investigative reporters and content producers
• May lead investigations, conduct interviews or be called upon for undercover field work
• Work with editors to utilize graphics and other tools to visually enhance storytelling
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
• 5+ years as a television news writer or producer with a background in enterprise or investigative journalism preferred
SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel lawsolid understanding and demonstration of multimedia file formats and strong computer skills
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws impacting operations
• Knowledge and proficiency in posting content to television station websites
• Must be a team player and adapt to developing situations quickly.
• Must be an excellent conversational writer with solid news judgement and a positive attitude
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
