We are looking for an Assistant to support the art department that works on titles for our Riverhead, Putnam, Portfolio/Sentinel, TarcherPerigee, and Avery imprints. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in learning about the inner-workings of a fast-paced art department in a large publishing house!
Specifically, the Art Department Assistant:
1. Provides administrative support to the Art Manager and art department as needed.
2. Ensures all art and design rights for each title have been licensed/cleared for use in all formats & editions.
3. Coordinates internal and external uploading of all covers to internal database.
4. Collects and verifies art and design sources for each title.
5. Manages the internal and external release of covers/jacket design files and billing for foreign adaptation rights.
6. Fields requests from other in-house departments for cover and jacket files.
7. Codes and processes invoices and maintains records of budget.
8. Researches and verifies permissions information for backlist titles.
9. Assists staff designers with various tasks such as obtaining hi-resolution images, art/photo research, cover reprint changes.
Please apply if you meet the following requirements:
• Minimum of 6 months of prior office experience
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proactive and able to provide timely follow through on projects
• Proficiency of Microsoft Excel
• Working knowledge of Mac platform and Adobe Creative Suite
Salary for this position is $40,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
