Studio Assistant, Knopf Cover Art
Alfred A. Knopf was founded in 1915 and has long been known as a publisher of distinguished hardcover fiction and nonfiction. Its list of authors includes Toni Morrison, John Updike, Cormac McCarthy, Alice Munro, Anne Rice, Anne Tyler, Jane Smiley, Richard Ford, Julia Child, Peter Carey, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Michael Ondaatje, as well as such classic writers as Thomas Mann, Willa Cather, John Hersey, and John Cheever.
We are looking for an Assistant to support the art department that work on titles for the Knopf Doubleday publishing group. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in learning about the inner-workings of a fast-paced art department in a large publishing house.
Responsibilities:
• Provide administrative support to the Art Department as needed
• Coordinates internal and external uploading of all covers to internal database
• Maintains and manages database
• Maintains vendor contact information
• Coordinates, schedules and takes meeting minutes for weekly cover meetings
• Creates, processes and files all contracts
• Liaises with and fields requests from other in-house departments and foreign publishers for cover and jacket files
• Creates and processes invoices
• Processes receipts for internal spending
• Sends proofs and books to artists and designers
• Distribute books and proofs internally
• Archives finished book covers
• Create cover mock-ups for designers
• Orders art supplies
Requirements:
• Minimum of 1 year prior office experience
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
• Attention to detail
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proactive and able to provide timely follow through on projects
• Knowledge of FileMaker Pro a plus
Salary for this position is $40,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
