The Tennessean, which is part of the USA TODAY NETWORK-Tennessee, is seeking a multiplatform-savvy journalist to join its team as a content strategist.
This leadership role is responsible for coaching, supervising and directing the work of reporters, encouraging independent planning and self-direction. The content strategist will guide reporters to ensure that they create high quality content that fulfills the newsroom’s strategy across all platforms. Focus areas include but are not limited to: reporting, narrative writing, beat development and digital content. Sometimes takes a hands-on approach to accelerate a story’s path to publication. The content strategist also guides journalists by consultation and coaching before, during and after the creating of content. Focuses on the most important, sensitive and complex stories. At times, works in collaboration with marketing and advertising on events and special content sections.
The ideal candidate should have a degree in journalism or a similar field and ten or more years of experience as a professional journalist, with at least three years of experience managing other working journalists. Candidates should have an understanding of audience analysis and content metrics.
