WPTV, the Scripps owned NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida, is looking for an experienced Breaking News Anchor to join a great team with a great tradition of excellence. The ideal candidate has a long track record of successful newscasts, strong on-air delivery and newsroom leadership. We want YOU to join our winning team!
The Breaking News Anchor will be responsible for writing, producing and anchoring breaking news reports on multiple platforms. The successful candidate will follow breaking news at all times of the day and be able to work quickly and efficiently to turn stories on a dime. We are looking for a true news junkie!
Key Activities
• Produces, writes and anchors several breaking news reports for multiple platforms, including Today on 5 and the FOX 29 Morning News. This includes finding video and making lower thirds
• Report live on location during major breaking news situations
• Periodically required to drive personal or company vehicle to cover various assignments
• Perform various community service activities for station as assigned
• Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education & Experience
• College degree or post-graduate studies in journalism, reporting and producing for television or film preferred or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years experience in on-camera reporting/anchoring.
Skills & Abilities
• Must be able to consistently speak and write urgently and clearly. This person is a strong adlibber who can change stories on a dime and roll with the punches
• Must demonstrate strong news and creative judgment and organizational skills
• Ability to work well under intense pressure and deadlines
• Strong working knowledge of journalistic ethics and libel law
Work Environment
• Newsroom-deadline driven and fast paced.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record
