KGUN 9 and KWBA in Tucson are both stations owned by E.W. Scripps, a company rich in media history while staying focused on the future. We're seeking an experienced and dynamic Morning Anchor to join our Good Morning Tucson Team!
We are looking for an evocative, experienced writer who is also proficient with photo and video editing, and content management systems. Preferred candidates will have an established digital footprint on sites and social (please include links to your best in-depth digital reporting.) The ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots, ad-lib on social platforms, with strong social media skills and a demonstrated ability to engage followers is recommended.
We expect everyone on our news team to be a highly productive digital and social producer of content. Our integrated news operation requires daily contribution to our digital screens. The ability to perform in breaking news situations both on air and on social media is a must.
The ideal candidate must be an excellent communicator, have sharp news judgment, excellent technical skills and the ability to work well with others. You must be able to work in a deadline-oriented environment and be able to react in high pressure situations. This is not an entry-level position.
Key Responsibilities:
• Co-anchor the morning newscast, Monday through Friday.
• Gather and write news content for multiple platforms, including posting stories on the Internet.
• Report live on location from various news events.
• Research and develop news stories.
• Perform various community service activities for station, including performing as master of ceremonies for public service events and as host/hostess for station events.
• Periodically required to drive personal or company vehicle to cover various assignments.
• Perform other duties as needed and assigned.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in broadcast, journalism or other related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of news anchor experience.
• All applicants must provide a reel highlighting samples of your work.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Must connect on camera with a sense of urgency.
• "Model the Way" and demonstrate leadership in the newsroom.
• Ability to cultivate sources and mine stories.
• Community outreach is highly encouraged as a representative of the station.
• Knowledge of newsroom computers (Newstar) and computer databases strongly preferred.
• Must demonstrate strong news judgment and organizational skills.
• Must have keen sense of logistics and ability to work well under intense pressure and deadlines.
• Must have good creative and editorial judgment.
• Mastery of journalistic ethics and libel law.
• Must be able to speak clearly and concisely.
• Driving required, must meet the company's eligibility requirements.
