We are seeking a lighting artist on a contract basis.
Overview:
Our ideal candidate is an artistic and technically competent person who takes direction well with a passion for lighting and an understanding of traditional lighting concepts, color, and composition.
Responsibilities:
• Work with Environment Artists, and take direction from Team Leads in developing lighting schemes to convey visual mood from existing color keys and concept art
• Collaborate with level designers to establish lighting that supports and enhances gameplay
• Be able to work with real-time color grading and other post-process effects (bloom, fog) using in-game tools to achieve a game with rich atmosphere and depth
• Create skyboxes and other atmospheric FX elements using graphic creation packages such as Photoshop
• Optimize the visual look of lit environments for run-time performance through proprietary scripting and debug tools
• Ability to self-prioritize effectively, and ensure that key items are delivered to meet immediate project needs and milestones
Requirements:
• 1 -2 years of lighting experience on game console hardware (360/Xbox One, PS3/PS4)
• Excellent technical and artistic problem solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Quick learner: able to pick-up new tools, technologies and new processes quickly
• Understanding of direct/indirect light, physical-based rendering, luminance/exposure, and color theory
• Understanding of composition, contrast, and color with the ability to enhance mood with lighting
• Working knowledge of Photoshop and one modeling package (Maya)
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate effectively with artists, programmers, and designers in a large team environment
• Work samples must show excellent real-time lighting ability
• Has an excellent knowledge of baking light within Maya (managing bake layers, render layers etc)
Preferences:
• Experience with AAA titles (especially First or Third Person action games) preferred and a huge plus
• Experience with one or more scripting/programming languages (Melscript, Python) a plus
• Familiarity with Shotgun tracking system and asset tracking tool (Perforce) a plus
• Knowledge of lighting in Unreal a plus
