We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Agile Delivery Manager to work with established and newly-forming teams within Elsevier’s Big Data Platform team to realize the potential in their talent and the available resources.
The role will help the Big Data team to set up their working practices, improve delivery efficiency and facilitate agile ceremonies. The Agile Delivery Manager will need to bring passion, ingenuity and a servant-leader approach to their work. Reporting into the Director Engineering the role will shape and implement lightweight delivery frameworks and tools that work effectively for the Big Data teams. The role holder will be responsible for helping improve the delivery of Big Data Platform products, through coaching, facilitation and project management within a very fast moving organization.
The Agile Delivery Manager will ideally have an interest in big data and technologies as the role will be working with the teams delivering and running operationally reliable systems on Elsevier's Big Data Platform. The software delivery pipeline that the Big Data Platform teams put in place will predictably deliver high quality and high value features. The role will work closely with product owners, architects and other subject matter experts to ensure the teams deliver the right thing at the right time.
Applicants will have several years of experience in leading Agile teams, be very interested in software development process, be committed to a hands-on role improving the company’s structure, practices and delivery capability. Their aim is to facilitate an environment where the teams within the company can produce their best work for world leading research platforms.
Responsibilities:
• Drive process improvement in macro and micro scale work practices
• Recognize and champion high quality code and communication
• Focus on delivery; hands-on activity rather than exclusively coaching and evangelism
• Coordinate interaction between stakeholders, developers and design teams
• Drive development team actions to build cadence
• Help to scope the technical and product roadmaps of the teams
• Define and deliver project reporting, including team metrics
• Increase transparency around project successes and failures; share lessons learned
• Follow current thinking in agile and lean software development practices
• Support Business Leaders, Project Managers, and Developers to produce their best work; ensure appropriate tools are provided, that learning opportunities are presented, and implement feedback loops via review processes
• To encourage, enable and empower others to develop as leader
Essential Skills:
• The ability to ensure steady delivery within an evolving and changing business environment
• Excellent business communication skills and a diplomatic nature
• Broad agile experience e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP
• Ability to inspire and drive positive change at all levels of the company
• Pragmatic, methodology-agnostic approach to Agile development - ability to adapt practices to suit the team or teams involved, rather than out-of-the-book application
• Hands-on experience of Project Management, ScrumMaster/Iteration Manager/Agile coach roles
• Dedication to the creation of a learning, continuous improvement environment
• Managing and mentoring experience with senior software developers and development teams.
• Demonstrable experience in leading Agile software development projects
• Presence to have demonstrable line management experience
• Technical background an advantage but not essential
