Job Description
Starcom has an opportunity for a Human Resources (HR) Summer Intern in our Chicago location. This is a full-time paid internship. We’d like the HR Intern to start in mid to late May, prior to the start of our internship program (which kicks off in early June 2018), and we’d like the HR Intern to stay through mid to late August.Applications will be accepted online only until Monday, April 2nd
The summer internship pays $12 per hour.
The HR Intern will join a small but mighty group of HR team members who support a 1300+ person organization, spread across four main locations. The HR Summer Intern will have the opportunity to be involved in tasks and projects across various areas of HR, with a primary focus on Recruiting/Staffing and HR Generalist areas. Some of the areas the HR Summer Intern is anticipated to be involved in/provide support and leadership on are:
Talent Acquisition
• Serve as a member of the Intern Committee; attend and participate in all Intern Committee meetings
• Help develop a calendar of summer intern training sessions/activities/events
• Assist with intern orientation/onboarding activities
• Coordinate logistics of summer intern events, including sending out e-mails and meeting notices, booking and setting up rooms, ordering food, setting up presentations, coordinating materials, scheduling presenters, collecting feedback on sessions, etc.
• In partnership with MarCom Summer Intern(s) and HR and MarCom employees, assist with talent acquisition focused social networking strategies and tactics (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
• Draft materials to help orient/welcome interns
• Serve as the first line of contact for interns to ask basic questions
• Send out communications to interns and intern leaders as approved by HR staff
• Assist with ensuring performance feedback is shared with interns by managers and collected from intern managers
• Assist with collecting and/or completing required paperwork for intern onboarding and off-boarding (i.e., PAN forms, I-9 forms, new hire paperwork, etc.)
• Assist with ensuring interns have badges, equipment, space and other necessary items for smooth on-boarding
• Elevate any known issues related to interns to HR employees
• Coordinate with associations (i.e., MAIP/4 A’s, etc.) on intern events and opportunities
• Organize and track program milestones and key deliverables including creating status reports.
• Analyze and report data related to the intern program to HR team
• Develop and present to HR team recommendations on internship program key improvements by:
◦ Gathering feedback from interns and leaders on Internship Program
◦ Researching best practices
HR Generalist
• Inventory and enhance our employee discount and perk offerings
• Assist with the coordination of the Spectrum Diversity Program
• Assist with internal initiatives such as the summer meeting/party, Starcom Serves, and other agency events
• Gain exposure to personnel file regulations and processes by supporting organization and maintenance of the HR file room
Qualifications
Required Skills/Education/Experience:
• Prior internship(s) in Human Resources (HR) field highly preferred
• Strong demonstrated interest in Human Resources field
• Pursuing Bachelor's Degree or higher in HR or related field with a target graduation date between Winter 2018 and Spring 2019
• Strong academic credentials (Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75)
• Basic PC Skills - familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments and manage ambiguity
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels
• Leadership, problem solving and strong verbal and written communication skills
