Reporting to the Director of Pricing, the Sr. Manager Pricing will lead initiatives to develop and implement new business/pricing models for both books (print and ebooks) and elearning solutions; to optimize price setting and discount across our go-to-market channels; and finally to drive net price capture. A key element of this role will be to deliver actionable insights based on analysis of pricing, sales, and market data. While this requires a strong analytical and quantitative skillset, a strong interpersonal skillset is required to present analysis, findings and progress to senior management, and also to be able to effectively operate in a highly matrixed organization and collaborate closely with all areas of the business.
Responsibilities
Strategy, Business/Pricing Models
• Lead development, investigation and implementation of new business/pricing models, both for books (print and e-books) and elearning solutions, to drive our strategy of moving our business from print to digital
◦ develop and implement a vision and strategy for transforming the business from transactional print books to subscription based electronic products and solutions
◦ develop, concept-test, pilot and implement new business/pricing models
◦ help develop detailed implementation plans to ensure workability
◦ gain buy-in for proposed changes and implementation plan, incl. with senior management
Price Setting
• Support Product and Marketing teams in pricing new products and developing these products with a customer value focus and monetization mindset. This includes optimizing product versioning based on improved understanding of various customer segments that we serve.
• Manage and deliver a best-in-class list price and discount (review) process for both books and elearning solutions
• Optimize pricing and discounting across our go-to-market channels
Price Getting
• Lead development of customer product/value propositions with a quantitative underpinning of the value of our products and making this an integral part of sales materials; working with the product development, book publishing, marketing and sales organizations
• Optimize strategic bid and pricing approach for B2B negotiations. Build pricing capability to pro-actively price and win sales, while optimizing proposals from a margin as well as systems/back-office perspective. Provide data driven negotiation support to Sales.
• Help fine tune Sales Incentive Plans to drive revenue and support strategic initiative
Foundational
Create standard reporting of key revenue/pricing data, and feed into a dashboard. Review trends on a regular basis with key stakeholders, and derive actionable insights to optimize business performance. Develop analytical, reporting and data driven decision/management capabilities. Act as a thought leader in translating data into business insights, to support general management decision making, product development, marketing initiatives and pricing
• Track and measure performance/impact of key strategic and pricing intiatives, to allow for ongoing optimization of our business, and to identify further improvement opportunities
• Support organization in implementing strategic and pricing initiatives, to ensure successful execution
Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree Required (degree in business / analytical discipline preferred, however, previous experience in a similar or comparable role can be substituted for the business degree)
• Top-tier MBA preferred
Experience Requirements
• 5+ years of total experience including 2+ years as a strategy consultant and/or 3+ years’ experience in a strategy / analytics function at a company
• Demonstrated ability to lead matrixed teams effectively
• Experience in pricing and different approaches to developing and implementing pricing models; both in B2B and in B2C markets; including leading strategic pricing initiatives
• Experience in and comfort with data at the highest level, having demonstrated the ability to solve issues with incomplete, uncertain or inaccurate data, leading to reliable insights and recommendations
• Conducting and evaluating business performance and insights using data driven analytical analysis
• Effective utilization of data manipulation and visualization tools, such as Excel, Access, Tableau, SQL Server, Domo, etc. to conduct and present analysis results. Proficiency in Excel is Required.
• Experience developing executive level PowerPoint presentations and presenting to senior executives

• Combining highly structured conceptual thinking, deep analytics skills including modelling experience, an appetite for detail, and the ability to consider and integrate multiple problems at once; deep knowledge of MS Excel
• Strong sense of urgency, personal commitment, and ownership of work
• Flexible, able to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
• Strong business sense, with a genuine interest in the education industry
