The Ebook Development & Operations team seeks an Ebook Production Associate to join the team and support their efforts to create, update, and distribute ebook products. The Ebook Production Associate will use HTML editing software as well as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat to create and update ebooks, communicate with divisional and external partners, maintain production schedules, perform quality assurance on ebook files, and test new software and hardware as our digital publishing programs evolve.
This is a full-time position and is located in our New York City office.
The ideal candidate is an organized, process-oriented, independent worker with tenacious attention to detail. He/She must have a demonstrated ability to work across multiple workflows in a deadline-driven environment with shifting priorities and heavy volume.
This position will require frequent interaction with contacts in our editorial and design departments to discuss product development and resolve quality issues. As such, strong verbal and written communication skills are a must. Applicants should come prepared to discuss relevant examples from at least 1 year of prior experience (in rigorous academic and/or business settings) with this kind of work.
Responsibilities:
• Perform quality assurance on ebooks across multiple platforms and devices
• Update and correct ebook files from an extensive catalog of titles
• Generate ebooks from InDesign files
• Troubleshoot conversion problems and fix errors found in ebook files
• Help refine existing processes to convert print-ready content into ebooks
• Work within production schedules to ensure quality content is delivered on time
• Provide feedback on documentation and create new documentation
Requirements:
• Ability to perform complex tasks with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop (Creative Cloud preferred)
• Thorough understanding and application of XHTML and CSS
• Proficiency working in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Proficiency working in a Mac-based environment
• Familiarity with print and/or ebook production processes
• Intimate familiarity with ebooks (EPUB)
• Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple deadline-driven tasks
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong verbal communication skills
• A four-year degree or equivalent experience
• Prior experience working in an office environment
• Experience working with software developers is a plus
• Proficiency with GREP is a plus
