The Opportunity
NPR’s growing Development Division seeks a full-time Graphic Designer to help us connect with and inspire our donors through visual storytelling. The designer will be responsible for the creation, design, and production of all print and digital fundraising, stewardship and donor communications materials in line with NPR’s brand.
Position Summary
The ideal candidate will have 3 – 5 years of professional experience and a strong print and web design portfolio. S/he will have a proven track record of producing successful fundraising materials and donor communications materials. The Graphic Designer will be instrumental in developing strong, unique materials for significant fundraising initiatives. S/he will be inspired and collaborative, have a service-oriented approach and keen business/nonprofit acumen, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative, results oriented culture.
As a member of Development’s Donor Communications team, reporting to the Director of Donor Communications, the Graphic Designer will play a key role in developing non-editorial materials for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts. This position is vital to the Development Division’s efforts to create engaging, visually compelling communications with our prospects and donors.
Essential Duties
The Graphic Designer’s primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Develop concepts, designs, and innovative ideas for print and web, including multi-page layouts for funding proposals and donor reports; infographics, stewardship cards, event marketing materials, annual fund letter appeals, emails and graphics for NPR Development’s online donor destination – npr.org/support;
• Work in collaboration with NPR’s Marketing, Branding and Communications team to ensure brand standards are reflected in all non-editorial fundraising materials;
• Produce visually engaging fundraising marketing materials that will support conversations with potential and existing donors;
• Develop motion graphics and illustrations in the form of video shorts that quickly convey the value of public radio and its impact;
• Support copywriting, editing and other donor communications and stewardship writing needs;
• Maintain NPR Development’s website and any other digital / social marketing platforms with up-to-date information on NPR’s funding priority;
• Work in partnership with stewardship team to ensure fundraising materials are donor-centric and versatile to fit desired audience.
Required Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, or related discipline
• A strong graphic design portfolio displaying creative and conceptual thinking in various platforms
• Advanced knowledge in Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Experience with digital, interactive, and web design (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WordPress templates)
• Experience creating motion graphics and editing video
• Conceptual thinker with the ability to take direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them into creative images, infographics, and other types of print or digital designs
• Understanding of print production methods and experience working with vendors to ensure deadlines are met
• Strong written communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-pace, time-sensitive environment
• Be open to feedback and willing to make revisions to your designs
• Detail-oriented, proactive, and versatile professional with great time management and organization skills
