JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Scripted Programming is a member of AMC and Sundance TV’s scripted programming team. The Director of Scripted Programming works alongside senior executives in overseeing the development and current production of scripted series. The ideal candidate for Director of Scripted Programming has experience in giving creative guidance and feedback to showrunners and writers. He/she is self-starter able to generate projects and be comfortable working in a team environment. An interest in horror, sci-fi and comic book genres is beneficial. Must have excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills as well as strong relationships within the industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work alongside a senior executive to oversee development and current production of scripted series.
• Give creative notes to showrunners, writers, and producers on all outlines, scripts, and rough-cuts of current series.
• Read all submissions for staffing and make recommendations to senior executives.
• View material for directors and make recommendations on directors to senior executives.
• Provide constructive creative feedback on all script drafts for projects in development and in conjunction with collective notes from the development team.
• Track, solicit, evaluate, procure scripted programming for development including fielding pitches from producers and scouting potential IP (books, comic books, etc.) to option and develop.
• Build and maintain relationships with talent (writers, producers, directors, actors, authors, filmmakers, playwrights).
• Identify and track the creators and future show runners and actively pursue business with them.
• Primary liaison to other departments including Marketing, Press, S&P, Research, and Business Affairs.
• Manage special projects and assignments as required.
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 2-3 years of experience in development and current programming as an executive.
• Ability to maintain productive relations with industry contacts including agents, studios, writers and production companies.
• Strong communications and interpersonal skills
• Fiscally responsible
• Thoughtful, persuasive and charismatic
• Highly creative
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent writing skills
• Good knowledge of television, literature and film
• Thorough knowledge of marketing tactics, media, research and the interactive Marketplace
