Corporate and Benefits Accounting Supervisor
Gannett is seeking a Supervisor, Corporate and Benefits Accounting with more than five years of progressive general accounting experience to be primarily responsible for supervising daily, monthly and annual corporate accounting activities. This position conducts back office and accounting functions to include preparation of accrual and other close related journal entries, invoice review to ensure appropriate coding and approvals, and account reconciliations. This is done through collaboration with business operations, corporate functions, and third-party auditors and advisors. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including financial reporting, and applies these principles in all aspects of work. The Supervisor of Corporate Accounting should have an understanding of and experience in Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance.
The successful candidate will regularly interact with senior management, internal and external auditors.
The position is based in McLean, VA and reports into the Senior Manager of Accounting.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate a timely and accurate monthly/quarterly/annual close.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis.
• Monitor departmental expense activity on a regular basis to identify items that require follow up.
• Be a resource for the corporate departments to assist them with their accounting and finance needs including general ledger coding of expenses and identifying monthly expense accruals.
• Assists with monthly and quarterly financial fluctuation analysis.
• Supervise, train, and review the work of at least one direct report.
• Maintain the general ledger system which includes setting up new departments and accounts.
• Coordinate the internal and external audits for corporate.
• Assist with the implementation of financial systems, controls, policies and procedures.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including supervisory experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks meeting tight deadlines
• High energy and initiative
• Detail-oriented with demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
