Job Description
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Graphics Editor to join its award-winning visuals team. The Editor will focus primarily on the Journal Reports section but will also contribute to visual journalism in other coverage areas as needed. The Journal Reports is a special section published in print and digital, covering topics such as wealth management, health care, mutual funds, technology, energy, and more.
Responsibilities:
• The Editor will be responsible for generating new ideas and creating visual stories with graphics, interactives and newsroom apps.
• As part of The Journal’s strategic goal to be more visual and digital, the Editor will also help create new workflows and processes in a fast-paced and cross-platform newsroom.
• As well as creating visual stories, the editor will contribute to editing graphics and also work closely with the director of graphics and head of Journal Reports to prioritize and assign graphics when projects require more assistance.
• The Editor will work with the audience and off-platform teams to help drive decisions around coverage.
Job requirements:
• Prior experience in a newsroom, with excellent news, storytelling and design judgement.
• Experience with business news graphics and data visualization techniques.
• Experience with reporting original stories.
• Experience with data journalism and associated tools, such as Excel, SQL, R and Python.
• Good knowledge of responsive design and best practices for building stories for mobile devices.
• Able to work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines.
• Able to train reporters and editors to learn new skills that will contribute to their visual storytelling.
• The initiative to take on and learn new tasks in a fast-moving environment.
• Excellent communication skills.
