Job Description
KIII-TV in Corpus Christi, TX has an immediate opening for an Assistant News Director. This person will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the newsroom with the News Director. The Assistant News Director will coordinate daily news coverage, have a passion for innovation, possess the ability to motivate and coach our reporting staff, and oversee content gathering across all platforms. The ideal candidate must be a creative thinker willing to embrace challenges and understand how to leverage resources to win the day. Special projects are also something the ideal candidate will have to tackle. The Assistant News Director will understand what it means to “own” the big story, dominate severe weather coverage, and be the market leader in enterprise reporting. You’ll also help the News Director with the development and execution of long-term newsroom strategy. As a key member of our leadership team, we are seeking candidates with a vision for the future of news, emphasizing new technology, a digital-first approach, and creative storytelling. People skills are a must—the Assistant News Director will have to work closely with other station departments to manage and solve challenges affecting the newsroom and news product. You will also perform the duties of the News Director in his absence. Prior newsroom management experience is required, along with at least 8 years of experience in television news.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
• Lead teams in the creation of engaging, unique newscasts and digital segments evoking emotion
• Coach and inspire on-air talent
• Produce news stories for on-air broadcast and digital platforms when needed
• Use the latest editing and visual tools to tell great stories
• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
• Enterprise news stories
• Write and teach staff to write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner for broadcast
• Attention to detail for accuracy and clarity
• Use consumer analytics in the editorial process
• Perform other tasks as required by News Director
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
