GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
The Collections Management Assistant is a project based member of the Antonio Ratti Textile Center’s collections management team. This position specializes in processing and rehousing a large group of regional dress and accessories recently relocated to the Antonio Ratti Textile Center. Primary responsibilities will include: inventory; the production of archival storage formats; the reconfiguration of existing storage areas to maximize space and efficiency; and working with the Collections Manager and Associate Collections Specialist to identify home locations. This is a full-time position with an end date of: August 30, 2018
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
• Inventory and process incoming material
• Create storage supports for flat textiles and three-dimentional costume
• Assign new home locations
• Track locations in departmental log books
• Alert Collections Manager to object and facility condition issues
• Reconfiguration of drawers and shelves in exisiting units
• Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and Skills:
• Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office) required; knowledge of TMS database preferred
• Ability to lift 25 lbs. and climb ladders simultaneously required
• 1- 3 years museum experience required
• Art handling experience required
• Experience working with costume collections preferred
• Working knowledge and demonstrated competency with hand tools and measuring tapes required
• Hand skills required; sewing and box-making skills preferred
• Strong organization, attention to detail and communication skills required
Knowledge and Education:
• B.A. or BFA with a focus in Museum Studies, Art History or Studio Art required; MA or MFA preferred
• Basic knowledge of collections management and preventive conservation concepts required
