Job Description
TEGNA owned KHOU 11 has an excellent opportunity for a talented Executive Producer. Applicants must have major breaking news experience, strong editorial judgment, newscast producing expertise and fully understand the needs of our audience across all platforms. This position requires leadership, solid decision-making skills and the ability to work well in a dynamic newsroom environment.
As Executive Producer, you are the conductor of a 3-screen experience providing thoughtful coverage of breaking news and relevant enterprise stories, delivered by a team that is warm, authentic and energetic. You will work closely with the show producers and field crews to make sure we have the best segments, live shots, story showcasing and user-generated content in the market. The Executive Producer will embrace KHOU’s standard of news reporting and storytelling, while boldly advancing the ‘Stands for Houston’ brand across multiple platforms. This person will also work collaboratively with other newsroom leaders, the digital team, and the marketing team to create and promote unique and shareable content for broadcast, digital and social. Our ideal candidate must be a skilled content producer with proven experience developing show strategy and coaching a team to consistently execute it. Responsibilities
• Plans coverage, story selection and ensures effective delivery of daily newscasts.
• Manages the daily performance of producers and their shows; supports producers by providing editorial skills, copy editing, and creative production and storytelling skills.
• Inspire enterprise stories and coordinate special coverage with news leadership team
• Regularly critique newscasts with the staff- as a team and individually
• Identify daily opportunities to have our news recognized and reach new audiences
Requirements
• 5 years television producing experience; college degree in journalism, communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• 3-5 years of experience supervising and leading other journalists
• Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics
• Mastery of technical aspects of live control room environment required
• Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook to research, discover and distribute content
• Bilingual (English & Spanish) speaking desirable
