SVP, Information Technology: Infrastructure

The Opportunity – IT SVP, Infrastructure
The SVP of Infrastructure is a key position reporting directly to the SVP & CIO. HMH Digital vision is to accelerate growth and drive value through a focus on world-class capabilities and a holistic transformation. Driven by passion and purpose, the SVP of Infrastructure will lead, manage and support all aspects of IT Infrastructure function. This individual will possess strong hands on technology knowledge, infrastructure (which includes WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, Managed Service Provider’s Server Infrastructure, Exchange, Collaboration and Internet/Intranet Web Infrastructure) implementation experience and great leadership skills with cross team collaboration within IT and across the Business.
Duties & Responsibilities
Drawing from the latest technology standards that are pragmatic, cost-effective and provide for high-availability, this person will be responsible for enhancing user productivity by enabling a high-degree of collaboration among multiple locations of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. With an unwavering vision of “Technology as a partner and leader”, this IT functional leader will bring best practices of hybrid (Could- and MSP-based) infrastructure and services to enable and support the needs of various industry applications. The SVP of Infrastructure will work to meet the needs of multiple business segments and corporate functions.
• 15-20 years of medium-to-large publicly-traded corporate IT infrastructure management and support experience.
• 10-15 years of server, WAN, Wi-Fi, internet/intranet, VoIP, Video, collaboration, and messaging technologies implementation, optimization and support experience.
• Experience in developing cloud migration strategy and executing on that strategy to continuously leverage the best of industry offerings.
• Takes responsibility do drive for exceptional internal customer experience, including tools, adoptions, conference and event experiences.
• Strong regulatory compliance support policies, procedures and practices experience.
• Leading people with knowledge, experience, compassion and “get it done” attitude.
• Ability to define, implement and enhance infrastructure policies/processes for optimal support of technology infrastructure across diverse groups of individuals with tight timelines and cross dependencies.
• Experience a fast-paced environment where different initiatives have equal priority and must be supported and delivered with a “Get it done” attitude and with ownership and accountability.
• Ability to work with various team members within the infrastructure team to mentor, guide, grow and develop next generation leader(s) for the organization.
• Great work ethics and strong vendor technical management and negotiation experience.
• Strong cyber security support experience with balanced approach toward risk-assessment, risk mitigation and “appropriate” security solutions to detect, prevent and react to security breaches.
Skills & Experience
This person is a self-motivated individual with proven IT operational experience and excellent team management and organizational skills who possesses:
• 15-20 years of experience in an executive leadership capacity focusing on driving technology solutions for business needs
• Proven success working with large scale infrastructure environments including hybrid cloud solutions
• Experience working in a complex global organization with proven effectiveness operating in a global company spanning multiple business units
• Proven ability to translate broad corporate next generation strategies into clear, specific business deliverables and solutions
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, appropriate for all levels of organization
• Collaboration and partnership skills with business and IT partners to drive development of the Infrastructure technology roadmap, prioritization of enhancements, and the ability to drive change
• Work well in fast-faced hyper growth corporate environment
• Ability to comply with processes and procedures that are essential in a publicly-traded corporate environment and balance it with the need to be effective and efficient

Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
• The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
