International Fine Print Dealers Association
ABOUT US:
The International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) is a non-profit membership organization of art dealers who specialize in original prints. With more than 150 members in thirteen countries, the IFPDA has a worldwide community of expert art dealers from old master to contemporary as well as publishers of editions by internationally renowned contemporary artists.
Through its network, online presence, and public programs, the IFPDA fosters knowledge and stimulates discussion about connoisseurship and the collecting of prints in the public sphere and the global art community. The IFPDA Fine Art Print Fair, held annually in New York City, is the largest, best known, and most important art fair dedicated to the artistic medium of printmaking. The annual IFPDA Book Award honors scholarly excellence and original research. The IFPDA also advances research, education, and dialogue for a new generation through its charitable Foundation.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is a prominent leader of the organization and has day-to-day oversight and responsibility for finance, operations, marketing, and management. Based on his or her firsthand knowledge of business operations, the Executive Director submits new program and staffing recommendations—with budget implications-- to the full Board for discussion and approval.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Strategy
• Be a visible leader and foster inclusion among Board, staff, members and the public.
• Continually build loyalty and engagement among IFPDA members.
• Build consensus around strategic goals to ensure resources are in place to achieve goals.
• Maintain an executive dashboard to track trends along key dimensions (i.e. budget variances, membership, public and VIP participation, web, email and social media analytics, etc.).
• Continually act as a public advocate for original prints.
Governance
• Work with committees to achieve progress on specific goals and ensure effective use of volunteer time.
• Plan and execute committee and board meetings with president and committee chairs. (NB: The committee structure is extensive and vital to the operation and success of the organization.)
Print Fair and Member Relations
• Evaluate the annual print fair, making necessary adjustments to boost attendance and public awareness.
• Develop meaningful programs to promote members and engage curators, artists, collectors and the public.
• Grow membership through effective solicitation and a robust benefits program (i.e., tailored events, free tickets to the Fair, business intelligence about visitorship, etc.).
• Exercise financial oversight together with the Print Fair Committee and the Treasurer
Finance
• Create a detailed annual operating budget as well as long-range projections.
• Formulate assumptions about the cost basis of fairs and surrounding events to inform the pricing model for exhibitors and sponsors.
Marketing/Communication
• Increase VIP and public participation.
• Cultivate relationships among peer organizations to help cross-promote IFPDA activities.
• Develop strategic partnerships with other organizations to expand the reach of the IFPDA.
Management/Human Resources
• Inculcate an entrepreneurial spirit among the staff; ensure goals and key performance indicators are clear; manage performance evaluations to develop skills; and, tie job performance to compensation.
• Acknowledge staff contributions in a meaningful way.
• Supervise Operations Manager in the timely implementation of the Print Fair within budget parameters.
• Oversee a Controller, if hired, to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Supervise Marketing/Development Associate to create print and digital content for marketing, communications, and outreach materials; and drive website and fair traffic.
• Ensure up-to-date and comprehensive job descriptions and annual performance reviews to implement the plan fully.
REQUIREMENTS:
Full-time commitment with the flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required. Bachelors degree or higher. 10+ years experience in non-profit or event management with a history of success in management, strategy development, and program implementation. MS Office, Salesforce or equivalent customer relationship management software (CRM). Art fair experience desirable, as is fluency with digital and social media platforms.
