Description
The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a VP, Strategy, New Business & Corporate Development to be based at our corporate office in Cincinnati, OH. This person is responsible for exploring, developing and implementing approaches to catalyze our strategy and support the vision and mission of the enterprise. This position will focus within the national media space.
Key activities:
• Cascade and facilitate enterprise strategy with business/division leader
• Develop/maintain relationships with owners/investment bankers/brokers/VC
• Identify potential target companies/react to incoming overtures
• Analyze potential fit with Scripps strategy with the appropriate business champion
• Reach out to company to determine interest in selling/investment
• Finalize & negotiate price and other terms
• Facilitate strategy development for national media businesses in alignment with enterprise goals and objectives and its overall fit and purpose within the company
• Partner with national business leaders to execute strategy and take advantage of the company's core competencies
• Lead exploration, analysis and cultivation of adjacent and/or diversified marketplaces
• Identify, develop and evaluate investment, acquisition and partnership opportunities within national and international markets
• Develop proposals, including feasibility studies, for new business opportunities
• Identify alternative opportunities for adopting new technologies and expanding on emerging platforms
• Contribute and assist in managing a pipeline of deal flow activity and investments
• Industry research and knowledge of a variety of business models
• Structure and negotiate deal terms
• Lead, plan and assist in launching new businesses developed internally
Education & Experience/Certifications
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related discipline; MBA preferred
• 10+ years' experience in business development
• Previous experience with leading mergers and acquisitions

• Strong executive presence and ability to interact with and influence people at all levels of an organization
• Must possess and demonstrate high degree of financial, analytical and leadership competence and business acumen
• Has a broad range of capabilities that include being a strategic leader, tough-minded negotiator, and an executor that can communicate problems and the solutions
• Demonstrated ability as a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think independently
• Excellent financial modeling and analytical skills for budgeting and forecasting combined with a strong attention to detail and the ability to present complex information in a usable format to a diverse audience
• Excellent ability to work with senior executive team and manage and develop qualified staff while building trusting relationships and partnerships throughout the organization
• Foundational understanding of media industry, core drivers and processes
• Must possess the ability to drive change within an ever-evolving media landscape
• Strong negotiation skills
