The Director of Finance will oversee the finance and accounting functions of the facility finance department. Responsibilities include supervising department staff, monitoring the monthly close process, issuing monthly financial statements, preparing event settlements, preparing budget reports and a variety of other financial reports. These responsibilities and tasks will be coordinated with and supervised by the General Manager and the VP of Finance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Accounting Management:
•Supervise department staff.
•Oversee and manage the month-end and year-end closing process.
•Monitor department progress toward meeting various deadlines.
•Review and approve cash disbursements (A/P) and billings (A/R) to ensure these items are properly approved, coded and recorded in the accounting system.
•Supervise the process of recording manual journal entries and oversee various finance related processes (fixed assets, payroll, etc.) to ensure accounting records are complete and accurate.
•Manage the facility’s cash flow needs
•Review and/or prepare bank reconciliations, account reconciliations and other analyses as needed.
•Ensure department policies & procedures are followed.
Financial Reporting:
•Prepare and/or review financial statements, budget reports, and event flash reports in a timely and accurate manner.
•Prepare updated financial forecasts.
•Prepare other financial reports and analyses as requested.
•Work with outside auditors to complete the annual audit and issue audited financial statements.
Other:
•Prepare event settlements.
•Partner with HR and the Payroll Department to ensure payroll is processed and recorded accurately.
•Assist general manager and other facility personnel as requested.
•Prepare annual operating budget.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
•The successful candidate will have skill in personnel management, developing and implementing policies and procedures, effective training, and designing and implementing accounting, financial and human resources systems and controls.
•Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate well with management-level peers as well as employees.
•Capable of handling all aspects of the accounting cycle and principles and techniques of arena operations.
•Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
•Ability to work under above-average pressure in meeting urgent deadlines.
•Ability to work long, irregular hours and weekends as dictated by event schedules and project timetables.
•Must be proficient with computers and MS Office programs such as Word, Excel, & Outlook.
•Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Education and Experience:
1. A minimum education level of: BA/BS Degree (4-year) (Advanced Degree Preferred) in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
2. A minimum of 7-10 years of related work experience with 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
3. Excellent customer service skills working with diverse backgrounds
4. Requires thorough knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles, theory, company financial policies and procedures, internal controls and financial analysis.
5. Proficient in accounting software systems; JDE experience a plus.
6. Excellent knowledge of computer operations (Microsoft Office 365, Word, Excel, data entry,10-key by touch, etc.)
7. Requires effective oral and written communication skills; establishing and maintaining cooperative and productive work relationships.
8. Ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines and working with confidential information.
9. Requires excellent time management abilities; managing multiple priorities and working independently.
10. Demonstrated independent thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
Licenses or certificates:
Certified Public Accounting license a plus.
