Position Overview
Supports new product introduction activities in a Research and Development environment by documenting/interpreting findings, participating in experiment design and development activities, participating in experiment design and recommending enhancements for future tests or designs.
Responsibilities
• Understands, follows and applies research principles for conducting experiments.
• Executes experiments to test various elements/components of new product. Researches system or component properties to create best method of testing. Determines root cause of failures and investigates/resolves issues accordingly.
• Generates and executes test plans for new products at the system level. Tests whether design changes pass/fail according to functionality. Documents test findings and prepares technical report for management approval. Determines if inputs require adjustment in future rounds of testing to enhance outcomes.
• Collects, analyzes, and interprets data from test to track errors, aid in troubleshooting and identify any issues with new products. Performs statistical and in-depth analysis of data and draws appropriate conclusions. Prepares data for presentation/review by management.
• Assists senior personnel with the development of technical documentation. Writes procedures to test new product functionality. Documents steps and results of test.
• Assists with the development of MOIs.
• Utilizes various lab equipment (pipettes, multimeter, spectrophotometer, real-time PCR instruments, etc.).
• Works with personnel to trouble shoot issues and share technical data.
• Broadens and stays abreast on industry knowledge by reading industry journals and attending conferences.
• Designs and executes more complex experiments to test various elements/components of new product utilizing knowledge of design control practices. Develops technical documentation and documents experiment results. Analyzes and interprets data to draw conclusions regarding experiment and any design changes.
• Prepares and presents test findings to management at review meetings. Utilizes input to enhance future experiments/testing.
• Communicates test findings with Engineers to help support new product design. Recommends changes/improvements to enhance test protocols.
• Recommends investigative approaches to enhance future test procedures. Determines root cause of failures and develops countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.
• Trains other Scientists and/or manufacturing personnel on performing various experiments/tests.
• Generates MOIs to build Intellectual Property.
• Develops, monitors, and leads the execution of experiments ensuring proper execution under regulatory requirements.
• Designs new and most complex experiments and determines investigative approaches for problem resolution.
• Collaborates with Engineers on product design utilizing knowledge of test findings and experiment outcomes.
• Develops and completes technical reports detailing experiment procedures, outcomes, and/or other documentation.
• Assists with completing documentation for Federal Drug Administration submission.
• Attends conferences, presents findings to internal and external customers and acts as lead author on documents.
• Mentors and trains less experienced Scientists.
• Takes on a project technical leadership role.
• Develops and oversees the execution of complex experiments ensuring proper execution under regulatory requirements.
• Independently designs complex experiments and defines thorough investigative approaches.
• Uses innovative methods to analyze data and collaborates with Engineers on product design.
• Leads technical reports efforts detailing experiment outcomes, MOIs and patent applications.
• Drafts documentation for Federal Drug Administration submissions and scientific manuscripts for peer review journals.
• Participates in market research activities.
• May travel to customer sites to troubleshoot issues/train new operators or meet with external collaborators.
• May be assigned additional duties and/or special projects.
Qualifications
• Requires a Masters or PhD degree in a scientific discipline and 8+ years scientific, research and development, biomedical or other related experience.
• Experience in experimental design and testing.
• Possess a full understanding of design control practices and a deep understanding of research principles.
• Ability to create and present presentations and/or technical papers to management, customers, or external scientific publications.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.)
• Requires strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and project management skills.
• May have to work overtime and may be assigned to other shifts based on company needs.
