Membership Marketing and Development enables the WGBH Foundation to carry out its public media mission by raising annual contributions from individuals for TV, Radio, and Web program support, as well as special projects at WGBH, WGBY, and the Cape Radio Station. Through database marketing, member engagement, relationship building, and traditional and web-based fundraising, the Membership Marketing and Development team provides WGBH with the economic resources to pursue its mission.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Operations and Planning, the Business Manager provides financial and administrative guidance and support to Local Development and Marketing, the Contributor Development Partnership (CDP) and CDP Member Service Bureau (MSB) stations. Key responsibilities of the position include expense management, financial data reporting and analysis, oversight of procurement and invoicing, reconciliation of WGBH, CDP and MSB station revenue (working with internal teams and member service stations as appropriate), training and support of administrative software systems. The Business manager will serve as the financial liaison to MSB stations, working closely with the Client Services team and directly with staff members from MSB stations. The Business Manager will assist in onboarding new MSB stations by validating converted financial data and working with CDP Technology Solutions team to resolve issues. The position will train and support the business functions of the department including system functionality and financial processes in Workday, Salesforce and Box.com. The position manages one full-time financial coordinator.
15% Assist Senior Director managing Local Development and CDP department budgets in conjunction with department directors, including reporting and analysis. Conduct quarterly meetings with department directors to exam results to date and adjust as appropriate.
10% Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions including expense approval, requisitions, purchase orders, invoices and aging reports.
15% Directly supervise one full-time financial coordinator assisting with AP/AR functions, data validation, expense monitoring and other duties.
10% Generate and distribute monthly revenue, expense and P&L reports to LDM and CDP that inform business decisions. Work with LDM staff and finance as appropriate to address reconciling issues proactively and expediently.
10% Assist senior director of operations and planning with long-range forecasts, staffing models and income projections for LDM and CDP.
10% Assist with onboarding new stations: validating converted data against stations’ legacy reports, working with Technology Solutions to resolve issues, lead stations in exploratory/overview meetings and train MSB stations on finance related reports and procedures. Conduct and lead MSB stations through exploratory GoTo/Webex meetings.
15% Generate, review and distribute monthly financial reports for MSB stations, including gathering local expenses from stations and incorporating into income statement. Work with stations and internal teams to resolve reconciling and/or coding/allocation issues. Conduct ongoing budget development and review sessions via GoTo/Webex meetings with stations.
10% Triage and manage MSB finance support queue, assigning, monitoring, addressing and communicating about cases with internal and MSB station staff as appropriate.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Skills Required
Previous experience in finance and budget management, analysis, and development.
*Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cultivate productive working relationships with internal and external clients.
*Ability to contribute to strategic and long-range project planning.
*Proven ability to generate accurate, detailed reports.
*Must be able to multi-task and manage peers to meet multiple deadlines.
*Excellent written and oral communication skills.
*Must be comfortable interacting with external clients in potentially stressful situations for the client as they undergo a massive database conversion and entrust MSB to manage a significant portion of their station’s revenue.
*Results oriented and analytical.
*Familiarity with basic human resources procedures.
*Computer fluency, especially in Excel, and financial software required.
*Knowledge of Workday, Salesforce and SharePoint preferred.
Educational Requirements
BS or BA in Business preferred.
