Description
NewFest is currently seeking a Development Manager to help grow and sustain New York’s LGBT Film & Media Arts Organization. The position will help implement and strengthen a development strategy for corporate sponsorships, public grants, private foundations, and individual giving. The Development Manager will build on existing relationships and establish new sources of funding in support of the annual New York LGBT Film Festival each October, multiple year-round screening series, and community-based educational and empowerment programs.
The Development Manager will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with the Programming & Operations Manager, as well as NewFest’s Board of Directors. The position exists within a small, vibrant and evolving team that offers the potential to grow with the non-profit organization and make a positive and lasting impact within the LGBT community.
The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills, be able to think strategically in pitch meetings, speak confidently and persuasively, have a proven history of meeting fundraising goals, and have a passion for NewFest’s mission.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include some or all of the following, and may change as the needs and priorities of the organization evolve.
CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP
--Manage and expand relationships with current sponsors
--Identify and cultivate prospective corporate sponsors; research primary contacts
--Match corporate marketing and CSR needs with appropriate NewFest programs
--Prepare for pitch meetings and confidently present NewFest opportunities
--Provide successful activations and a positive brand experience for corporate partners through the fulfillment of all program elements (via promotions, signage, online, etc)
--Write proposals, execute agreements and invoices, and manage corporate sponsorship database
PUBLIC GRANTS & FOUNDATIONS
--Research and identify grant funding opportunities relevant to NewFest’s programs, mission and growth
--Write and report on grants, and/or liaise and coordinate with contracted grant writers
--Maintain a solid understanding of each grant’s principles, guidelines and requirements
--Manage an annual grants calendar and keep existing database updated
INDIVIDUAL GIVING / MAJOR DONORS
--Identify, cultivate and solicit major donor prospects from NewFest members, ticket buyers, and a variety of additional sources
--Create and manage a calendar of year-round cultivation events
--Work with the NewFest Board in the planning and execution of individual fundraising events and asks
--Draft solicitation emails for fundraising campaigns
--Provide ongoing and timely donor recognition and appreciation of major gifts
FUNDRAISING SYSTEMS, OPERATIONS & MANAGEMENT
--Draft proposals, sponsorship and program decks, wrap reports, letters and supporting -documents for solicitation purposes
--Update and maintain databases for effective record keeping
--Engage with sponsors, funders and major donors at NewFest events
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
--Excellent writing and communication skills, which are essential to produce and edit effective proposals, grants and marketing materials
--Strong organizational skills, with a proven record of managing multiple projects and competing priorities
--Superior interpersonal and presentation skills, which are necessary to work effectively with colleagues, board members, donors and other stakeholders
--Leadership skills, a self-starter, and an ability to thinking strategically
--Knowledge and understanding of the LGBT community, as well as the issues that affect them
--Understanding the importance of sharing LGBT storytelling to create positive change
--Confidence and knowledge of when to make ‘the ask’ in writing and in person
--Awareness of, or willingness to learn, the use of fundraising database systems
--Experience with corporate sponsorship procedures a plus
--Familiarity with New York City and New York State fundraising and funders a plus
--Prior work with a non-profit organization highly desirable
--Ability to work nights and weekends at NewFest events as necessary, including at New York’s LGBT Film Festival
--Bachelor’s degree required
--Proven fundraising experience required
--Passion for NewFest’s mission
The position provides the possibility of flexible hours and is based in our New York City offices in Chelsea.
