Position Summary:
Provide corporate oversight and direction throughout all phases of capital development for all SEA parks. Facilitate the transfer of knowledge and experience during the design, construction and operation of new facilities throughout the company. Provide direction for the means & methods of capital project execution. Establish uniform policies & procedures for the Design & Engineering group. Oversee implementation, compliance and establish & maintain relationships throughout the industry to advance SEA’s interest.
Position Responsibilities:
In support of Sr. Director, Theme Park Development:
• Manage the capital project development process for projects, as assigned. Support new product development effort through concept sign-off, and assume overall responsibility for project advancement & completion. Approve selection of architectural & engineering consultants. Oversee & direct their design efforts throughout the development process. Create and manage project budgets & schedules. Administer project management systems for SEA capital projects.(48%)
• Provide corporate oversight and direction in the approval & selection of contractors & vendors. Monitor construction in progress to ensure compliance with design intent, contract documents, established budgets, and schedules. Collaborate with on-site project management to address compliance issues through appropriate channels. (10%)
• Administer the SEA Capital Projects Controls and Procedures. Provide corporate oversight, direction, and support to all park D&E Departments to ensure compliance with established policies & procedures. (10%)
• Develop, implement, and maintain corporate engineering standards for capital development processes, capital equipment, mechanical & electrical systems design, process design, and material specifications. Oversee engineering consultants’ design work to ensure compliance with established standards. (10%)
• Provide guidance and direction for the development of park and corporate project management resources, ensuring all team members receive proper skills and technical development assessments plus focused training, as it relates to company standards, project development systems and processes, design and construction work expertise, and overall project management skills for complex and unique work assignments. (10%)
• Actively participate in the capital planning process. Mentor D&E VP’s and Directors, and encourage staff development for succession planning. (10%)
• Develop and maintain key industry relationships with architectural & engineering professionals, technicians, specialty consultants, water quality experts, general contractors, specialty consultants, as well as authorities having jurisdiction. (2%)
• Responsible for the direction of engineering design and construction of SEA major new attractions and infrastructure projects, as assigned. Combined annual capital investment typically exceeds $150MM.
• Responsible for the efficient management of external engineering consultants, designers and industry experts. Combined annual fee billings exceed $10MM.
• Adhere to established project budgets & schedules as well as SEA Capital Projects Controls & Procedures.
• Position requires domestic and international travel
Position Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of five years combined experience in engineering design, project management, and construction management.
Amusement park project experience preferred.
• Excellent communication skills – oral & written.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to analyze complex issues & develop effective plans and strategies.
• Ability to effectively lead a diverse group of design & engineering professionals and flourish in a team environment.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple major projects and processes simultaneously
• Technical & functional knowledge of site utility distribution systems & equipment.
• Technical & functional knowledge of the design process and the means and methods of construction.
• Technical & functional knowledge of all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, etc.
• Technical & functional knowledge of water filtration and animal life support systems.
• Technical & functional knowledge of amusement ride systems, controls and equipment as well as entertainment media and related specialty systems used within the theme park industry preferred.
• Active Professional Engineering license is preferred.
