Pearson is constantly looking to add to our AMAZING team! Presently, we are in search of an innovative and highly engaged subject-matter-expert for our Math Editor role! In this position one must progress quickly to provide strong Math content knowledge with confidence and in depth understanding of mathematics. If your math knowledge expands across K-12 grades, that is a great plus!
As an Editor you will use your knowledge to develop competitive offerings and understand all of the “details” of a plan for an assigned project, including specs, writing guidelines, and the plan details for RFPs. You will be guided by your manager to ensure that the evolving product meets the objectives of the plan, its budget, and its schedule.
This opportunity is located at our Boston, MA, or Glenview, IL office site. Additional remote locations may be considered.
Here is what you will get to do:
• With supervision, write and edit manuscripts, scripts, storyboards, and ancillary materials
• Monitor appropriateness of text material as to reading level, content accuracy and currency, freedom of bias, and teachability
• Write and provide art specs for artists and photo-researchers; participate in evaluation of sketches and choice of photos
• Working with Product Management and Marketing, analyze competition and market trends and incorporate findings into program
• Oversee work of in-house editors, freelancers, and outside developers
• Ensure compliance with state standards and assessments
• Participate, as appropriate, in market research efforts (e.g. prepare sample lessons, conduct phone interviews, attend focus groups, etc.)
• Participate in planning assigned projects; make creative suggestions that reflect an understanding of the market place and an awareness of customer needs
• Ensure that product responds to customer needs
Qualifications
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in preferably in a Math-related field
• 3+ years’ experience in curriculum development or the development of instructional materials
• 2+ years relevant editorial experience
• Strong knowledge regarding educational methodologies and instructional design
• Teaching Math experience is preferred
• Understand how to translate knowledge of math and math teaching into formats that meet customer needs
• Able to create and deliver content in a format suitable for digital products; firm understanding of print and digital production processes and workflows
• Proficient user of computers and software programs including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills, with ability to communicate effectively for diverse audiences
• Demonstrate ability to write original content, and to edit and rewrite content generated by others, to meet standards of accuracy, style, grade level, and market need
• Exceptional work habits that are highly productive, working efficiently to develop quality content
• Strong problem-solving skills in dealing with the ambiguity of a fast-paced setting
• Must be strategic and efficient in planning and executing to ensure consistent on-time delivery of product
• Must display a “customer focus” in working with teams to conceptualize marketable product
• Must be able to utilize constructive feedback to refine skills and reduce mistakes
• Proactive in anticipating, evaluating, and solving for issues to avoid disruptions in workflow
• Displays self-confidence in actively participating in meetings and open forums
