Requirements
Position Description:
Editorial Assistant will assist a VP, Executive Editor and a Senior Associate Editor (St. Martin's Press) with the development and publication of fiction and non-fiction titles. Candidates should be exceptionally well-organized, detail oriented, proactive, and able to multitask and prioritize effectively. We are seeking a strong writer and proofreader who has a broad reading sensibility, in both fiction and non-fiction, and a passion for the publishing industry.
Major Responsibilities:
• Administrative support for a VP, Executive Editor and a Senior Associate Editor (St. Martin’s Press)
• Maintaining calendar and scheduling
• Answering phone; managing physical mailbox; routing forms and materials
• Maintaining professional relationships with authors and agents
• Evaluating submissions and preparing readers’ reports
• Preparing and routing all manuscripts through the production process
• Drafting catalog copy, tip sheets, launch sheets, jacket copy, and reading group guides
• Assisting with market research; preparing P&Ls, contract requests, estimate requests, and payment requests
• Attending author meetings and editorial board, when appropriate
• Prioritizing and proactively executing a multitude of tasks
Required Skills / Knowledge:
• The successful candidate will be a positive and proactive individual who has the ability to organize and prioritize a large number of tasks. Creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and a good attitude are vital.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Experience Needed:
• Internship or previous publishing experience preferred (1-2 years)
Educational Background Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree
